What is Shakti Yoga?

.

.Hatha Yoga postures to develop your strength & flexibility

Mindfulness to develop a deep loving kindness for all parts of yourself

Shakti stretches & meditations to develop your awareness to your own Prana Shakti

Literally, this Sanskrit word means energy.  Everything in the universe is powered by the wave-like, animating force of Shakti, just the frequency of the vibration of the energy differs.

Shakti is also the name of the Primal Goddess of the Vedic (ancient yogic wisdom) tradition, the Divine Feminine, Great Mother and life giver of all.

We use mantras, breathing, asanas (postures), stretches, meditation and mindfulness to care for not only our physical bodies, but also our Prana-Shakti, the subtle energy, which flows within and around our physical bodies.

Whether you already have a yoga and/or meditation practice, or you're just beginning, you will learn simple and effective techniques that will deepen your existing practice or open the door to something new, which you can integrate into your daily life, even if you have a very very busy schedule!

We work with 3 levels of being - the inner body, the physical body and the outer body, so you are your own energy healer (as well as an awesome yogini!) developing your innate ability to sense what's needed and how to nurture and gently cleanse and rebalance on all levels....without having to remember long or complicated sequences.

Physically, Shakti Yoga is accessible to everyone and I have successfully taught people with a wide range of abilities and challenges, seeing really excellent developments in physical health and wellbeing.

More about Shakti & Shakti Yoga: Energy Cycles, Chakras & Archetypes of the Feminine

The chakra & nadi system and our energy bodies (also known as the electromagnetic energy field or aura) need regular care and attention, just as much as our bodies, hearts & minds.

Our charka systems, radiating inside and outside our bodies, can also be interpreted as a physical energy field, an emotional energy field, a mental energy field and an etheric energy field.

So by using our breath, postures and flowing movements, with awareness of the three layers of ourselves (inner subtle body, physical body & outer subtle body) we can care for our physical, emotional, mental and etheric/energy selves, our inner strength, our spark and spirit.

We practice embodying all the parts of the cyclic nature of Shakti, within each breath and within our movements and postures as each movement, and how this relates to the cyclic nature of everything

  • Shakti's cyclic nature can be seen and felt really clearly in:
  • archetypes of the feminine - maiden, mother, priestess, crone;
  • lunar cycles - dark, new- waxing, full and waning;
  • cycles of the sun - from winter solstice, through spring and summer, autumn and back to winter; the gunas - tamas, rajas and satva; and
  • life cycles plants and creatures

We can also see and feel the different qualities of Shakti in our chakras and in the elements - earth and water, fire, air and spirit.

We always have our chakras with us and our relationship with the elements is primal and present in our environment, so using visualisation to tap into our chakras and our bone-deep, soul-deep knowing of the elements one of the key ways we develop a conscious relationship with Shakti.
