Hi, I'm Ella and I created Serenity Yoga in 2010

so I could share the yoga practices I love, to support physical, mental & emotional wellbeing.

Serenity Yoga offers Hatha Yoga, Shakti Yoga, Mindfulness & Meditation.

I have a teacher training diploma in Kauna Yoga from the Ruth White Yoga Centre* and I’m a qualified Shakti Dance Instructor**.

I've studied and practised traditional and modern styles of yoga, meditation, mindfulness, energy work & self development and followed Shamanic practices from several ancient wisdom traditions.

With Serenity Yoga, you have a teacher who:

  • draws upon a variety of yoga styles and other practices, to give you the most useful and interesting experiences, suitable and appropriate for you/your group and the context

  • is responsive and  intuitive, so that every session is tailored to meet the needs of the participant(s), on the day

  • can comfortably accommodate a range of abilities and experience within one class and has the scope to develop and nurture beginners and experienced yoginis alike

.

Since 2010, I've taught yoga, mindfulness and meditation, working one to one and with groups of people of all ages (from 3 to 80+!) in a wide variety of settings, including private homes, gyms, public class venues, workplaces and a centre for people with disabilities.

Other professional experiences include:

  • teaching yoga & meditation in a well-known shamanic healing temple in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest

  • teaching Shakti Dance since 2014 (wherever and wherever the opportunities arise, including Sheikin Ashram in Glastonbury, where I gave weekly classes for several years)

  • giving nearly 3000, 1 to 1 English coaching sessions to more than 250 students from more than 40 countries

  • and a previous career in childcare, education, playwork and health & wellbeing for public services in Hampshire

....so I have a lot of experiences to draw upon when I’m teaching yoga :-)

As you may guess, I’ve learnt a lot from working with so many different (and lovely!) people, and this experience enables me to support a diverse range of people in yoga, mindfulness and meditation sessions, and to be ready to create each and every session in response to the needs of the person or people in front of me.

I've had good deal of life experience too, which have given me plenty of tools to share with others - everything I teach is tried and tested :-)

My key points for every lesson are:

  • to create a warm, welcoming & nurturing environment
  • to calm our busy minds and arrive in our bodies, here, now, in the present moment
  • to really enjoy moving, breathing and being alive in our bodies, in the present moment
  • to welcome smiles and laughter that is kind and uplifting
  • to respond to what people are ready for and curious about
  • to support the development of body awareness and a library of embodied experiences, as a resource for personal practices without the necessity of memorising a lot of sequences and information
  • that yoga incorporates an holistic system for health and wellbeing so whatever challenges we might face and whatever state of fitness and flexibility we are starting from, yoga can give us support and practices which help the whole of who and what we are
  • we don’t do competition, we don’t do criticism (including self-criticism!) and we don’t force our bodies into anything, we love and encourage ourselves in a kind and supportive space.
  • My job is to give each person experiences which contribute to ever increasing health and vitality, self care and compassionate self-awareness, which they can actually draw upon in daily life
